Features

Everything a Markdown editor should do

Built with SwiftUI and TextKit 2, Markdownator feels at home on every Apple device.

  • Transparent mode

Syntax fades away, formatting stays. Headings, lists, code and tables render in place while you keep writing plain Markdown. Switch to Markdown mode anytime with ⌘⇧M.

  • Slash commands

Type / at the start of a line to insert a heading, list, task, table, quote or code block.

  • Full Markdown

Bold, italic, strikethrough, highlight, links, task lists, nested quotes, syntax-highlighted code, tables and dividers. The whole syntax, nothing to learn twice.

  • Images

Paste an image, drop a file or link one from the web. Add a caption and align it left, center or right.

  • Dynamic outline

Generates a table of contents of your note, updated as you write.

  • Instant search

Search across all your notes and folders and jump straight to the match.

  • Intuitive organization

Organize notes in nested folders, move them by drag and drop, and pick up where you left off from the recent notes list.

  • Icons and colors

Give each folder its own icon and color, and pick a symbol for the notes that matter.

  • Multiple themes

Customize the look of your editor with different themes and accent colors.

  • Your typography

Sans-serif or monospace, font size, line spacing and column width. Writing that feels at home in the type you picked.

  • iCloud sync

Notes and preferences sync through your own iCloud account. Theme, accent, editor mode and typography follow you from Mac to iPhone.

  • Native on every device

Real macOS, iOS and iPadOS apps, not a web view. Available in English, French and Spanish.

A closer look

Several editing modes

In Transparent mode you write Markdown and see a document. Headings grow, lists indent, code gets highlighted, and the syntax quietly steps aside. Prefer the raw text? Markdown mode keeps every character visible.

  • Transparent and Markdown modes, one shortcut apart
  • Slash menu for headings, lists, tables and code
  • Selection toolbar for bold, italic, links and more
  • Click a checkbox to complete a task

Notes and folders

A sidebar with nested folders, a home screen with your recent notes, and a search that looks inside every note. On iPhone, everything is one tab away.

  • Nested folders with drag and drop
  • Recent notes on the home screen
  • Search your notes
  • A tutorial note on first launch to learn the syntax

Mac & iPhone, in sync

Markdownator is native on every platform, not a web view. Your notes live in your iCloud account, and your settings travel with them, so each device looks and feels the same.

  • Native macOS & iOS apps
  • iCloud sync for notes and preferences
  • Works offline, syncs when you are back
  • Available in English, French and Spanish
